We don't know who will be catching for the White Sox next season. While he hasn't come out and said it, Rick Hahn has hinted that the Sox are going to let AJ Pierzynski walk in free agency this winter. Of course, that doesn't answer the question of who the Sox will have catching for them in 2013.
Whether or not the job would be handed to Tyler Flowers or if the Sox would pursue another catcher via a trade or free agency, we don't know. But apparently there is one other team interested in the idea of having Tyler Flowers.
Now, this is from the New York Post, so take it for what it's worth, but the Mets are reportedly interested in Flowers.
The Mets could also go the trade route for a catcher, as the team seeks either a starter or, at minimum, a right-handed bat to pair with Josh Thole. White Sox backup Tyler Flowers is of some interest to the Mets, according to a source. Now whether or not the Sox would have any interest in trading Flowers, I don't know for sure, but I doubt it. It's not as if letting him go would free up any money anywhere and allow the team to bring back Pierzynski.
So if the Sox are willing to let Pierzynski leave I don't think they'll want to ship Flowers out as well unless Hahn is just a huge Hector Gimenez fan.
Though I suppose if the Mets want to part with David Wright for Flowers...who wouldn't want to do that trade?
