White Sox 3 Rays 1: Reports Of White Sox Demise May Have Been Exaggerated
Considering how insane life has been around here I feel the need to caution everybody against getting too excited. Yes it was nice to win a baseball game. It was twice as nice to do so on the same night that the Tigers lost. And one game back with five to go has a lot better ring to it than two back with six left, but that's just it.
The Sox are still in second place, one game back with only five to go. The margin for error is nonexistent.
But we'll worry about that tomorrow. For tonight let's all bask in the feeling of victory. Gavin Floyd was not at his best but he still managed to get through 5 innings allowing only 2 hits and a run. The bullpen would pick up where he left off -- minus the walks -- allowing only 1 hit and a walk over the final four frames.
Alex Rios got to play MVP again, with three hits including what proved to be the game-winning home run in the fourth inning.
Things still were not perfect, or even good. The offense had 10 hits but only managed 3 runs thanks to another poor performance with runners in scoring position, going 2-for-11. Still, those two hits are more than we've been getting, so I'm not going to complain.
Tomorrow is another must-win. Especially since Justin Verlander will be facing the Twins for Detroit.
Like I said, there's no room for error.
