Steve Stone was on the Boers and Bernstein Show doing his weekly segment today and at the end of his segment he was asked about his future with the White Sox. Which is when things got a little strange.
Although Stone has one year left on his contract -- Hawk signed a four-year extension earlier this season -- he didn't sound like a man who was sure he'd be back in the booth with Harrelson next season.
In fact, he was down right cryptic when asked.
"Well, you know, it's very strange," said Stone when asked if he planned on being back next year. "At this point, certainly. I have some time left on my contract.
"You know, you sit back and it is a very long year. The travelling doesn't get any easier and then you sit back and evaluate everything."
Stone would then go off on a tangent about being addicted to baseball and always being around the game before he was pressed on the question once more.
"Honestly I don't know what's going to happen, as you know at this age the saying would be 'don't order green bananas.' Who knows what's going to happen? But I do know that, regardless, baseball is going to be a huge part of my life only because it always has."
Now while I may be reading too far into all this, I have to say that I find the fact that Stone gave a three minute answer to a yes or no question -- and never once said yes or no -- to be quite telling.
I don't think Steve Stone is going to be in the television booth with Hawk next season.
