White Sox 4 Angels 2: Pierzynski Goes Deep Again
I pointed out before today's game started that A.J. Pierzynski has had the most success of any White Sox against Angels starter Dan Haren, yet he had the day off following last night's extra inning game.
Nevermind that he had homered in four straight games.
Well, he made it five, even if it wasn't off Haren.
Pierzynski came on to pinch hit for Tyler Flowers in the seventh inning and hit a two-run homer to give the Sox a 3-2 lead. Alexei Ramirez would drive in another run in the eighth to expand the lead to 4-2 before Addison Reed would come out and close things down in the ninth.
Not everything was great for the Sox on Sunday, though. Francisco Liriano was looking great through 5 innings but then took a line drive off the thigh. He would have to leave the game with a right thigh contusion, and while I don't think it's a serious injury, any time a pitcher's plant leg is injured, you worry a bit.
Hopefully he won't miss his next start.
As for what happened outside this game, the Indians were nice enough to take an 8-5 lead over the Tigers in the top of the tenth of their game before Chris Perez decided to be an asshole and blow that lead and let the Tigers win to complete their sweep of Cleveland.
So the lead remains at 1.5 games.
