You cannot stop Dewayne Wise, you can only hope to contain him.
Though you could also outscore him this week if you're Adam Dunn, but you can't stop him. I know it doesn't seem like it with the weekend from hell in Kansas City, but overall this wasn't a bad week for the Sox offensively.
While guys like Alejandro De Aza and Kevin Youkilis struggled, the rest of the lineup did a pretty decent job picking up the slack.
Though I don't want to imagine what the week would have been like without Wise.
| RANK | PLAYER | POINTS | LW | +/- |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Alex Rios | 460 | 1 | 13 |
| 2 | Adam Dunn | 402 | 3 | 33 |
| 3 | A.J. Pierzynski | 391 | 2 | 19 |
| 4 | Paul Konerko | 377 | 4 | 16 |
| 5 | Alejandro De Aza | 361 | 5 | 4 |
| 6 | Alexei Ramirez | 322 | 6 | 21 |
| 7 | Dayan Viciedo | 288 | 8 | 29 |
| 8 | Gordon Beckham | 282 | 7 | 12 |
| 9 | Kevin Youkilis | 177 | 9 | 8 |
| 10 | Orlando Hudson | 54 | 10 | 0 |
| 11 | Eduardo Escobar | 45 | 11 | 0 |
| 12 | Tyler Flowers | 43 | 12 | 6 |
| 13 | Dewayne Wise | 36 | 17 | 30 |
| 14 | Brent Morel | 33 | 13 | 0 |
| 15 | Jordan Danks | 27 | 14 | 0 |
| 16 | Brent Lillibridge | 18 | 15 | 0 |
| 16 | Kosuke Fukudome | 18 | 15 | 0 |
| 18 | Ray Olmedo | 7 | 18 | 2 |
As you can see, Wise scored 30 points this week and has already jumped to 13th place, even though he's only played in 8 games as a White Sox.
To put that in perspective, Brent Morel scored 33 points in 35 games. Brent Lillibridge and Kosuke Fukudome combined for 36 points in 73 combined games. Jordan Danks had 27 points in 29 games.
In other words, the Sox finally have somebody on the bench who can hit.
It's a nice feeling.
