Royals 2 White Sox 1: Everybody Took The Night Off
When Robin Ventura posted his lineup for tonight's game, the names Alex Rios and Paul Konerko were noticeably absent. Seeing as how Konerko is the team captain, and Alex Rios rules the world, without either in the lineup the rest of the Sox didn't see much reason to do anything.
And they didn't.
Nope, instead they allowed Jeremy Guthrie to go 8 innings without allowing a single run.
The same Jeremy Guthrie who came into the night with a record of 3-12 and an ERA of 6.56.
The same Jeremy Guthrie who was 0-3 with a 7.71 ERA in three starts with the Royals.
The same Jeremy Guthrie who had given up 5 runs or more in 10 of his 18 starts this season.
The same Jeremy Guthrie who hadn't won a start since May 31st, 11 starts ago.
The same Jeremy Guthrie who had allowed 24 home runs in 107 innings this season. That's right, he's pretty much the Barry Bonds of giving up home runs.
That Jeremy Guthrie only allowed 5 hits and no runs through 8 innings, allowing only one Sox baserunner to even reach second base.
It was a fun night.
