Gavin Floyd Placed On The Disabled List
On Monday, a day after Gavin Floyd had to leave his start against the Mariners early thanks to some elbow soreness, the White Sox told us there was no structural damage to the elbow, though they were still concerned.
"I think the part that concerns you is he’s already had a DL stint before because of the same thing, and once he starts talking about not feeling right, you just don’t like that to send him back out there, even to take his next start," Robin Ventura told reporters. "I don’t know. I just know it just concerns you enough dealing with a guy’s future and his health."
Well, now Gavin has another DL stint.
Dylan Axelrod, who will start Wednesday, has been called up to take Gavin's spot on the roster.
As for Gavin's injury, honestly, I have mixed feelings. At times this season Gavin has been wonderful, but unfortunately most of the time he's been awful. I generally expect a loss when he starts.
That being said, given that the Sox are in a division race, you really don't want to be losing anybody of importance, and Gavin is still important to this team. In the pitchers poll released earlier today, he's the third-highest scoring pitcher on the team.
Plus, there's the fact that he's been amazing against Detroit in his career, going 7-2 with a 3.42 ERA against the Tigers. This season he's 1-0 with a 1.13 ERA against Detroit.
He's the Cy Chen of Detroit's existence.
Something that would be nice to have around this weekend and again starting September 10.
