If somebody had told me before the season started that at the end of June Alex Rios would be in second place in these rankings I'm not sure how I would have responded to them. I'd assume that the White Sox were roughly 5-67 if that were the case.
Yet, here they are, in first place and Alex Rios now trails only Paul Konerko after eleven weeks.
Oh, and Kevin Youkilis isn't in this week's rankings. Somewhat pointless to put him in after only a game, no?
| RANK | PLAYER | POINTS | LW | +/- |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Paul Konerko | 263 | 1 | 8 |
| 2 | Alex Rios | 242 | 5 | 19 |
| 3 | Adam Dunn | 237 | 2 | -4 |
| 3 | Alejandro De Aza | 237 | 3 | 8 |
| 5 | A.J. Pierzynski | 235 | 4 | 7 |
| 6 | Gordon Beckham | 206 | 6 | 29 |
| 7 | Alexei Ramirez | 171 | 8 | 22 |
| 8 | Dayan Viciedo | 168 | 7 | 17 |
| 9 | Orlando Hudson | 51 | 9 | 3 |
| 10 | Brent Morel | 33 | 10 | 0 |
| 11 | Eduardo Escobar | 28 | 12 | 10 |
| 12 | Brent Lillibridge | 18 | 11 | -2 |
| 12 | Kosuke Fukudome | 18 | 12 | 0 |
| 12 | Tyler Flowers | 18 | 12 | 0 |
| 15 | Jordan Danks | 7 | 15 | 0 |
If you were wondering, even though they're no longer with the team, Brent Lillibridge and Kosuke Fukudome will remain in the poll. We just have to hope the players below them or tied with them pass them at some point.
Cross your fingers.
As for the others, obviously it was a slow week for offense with this team. Normally when a guy is going to jump from fifth all the way to second like Rios did, he's going to need a huge week. Instead Alex had a decent 19-point week and took advantage of those ahead of him doing nothing.
The only real standout for the week was Gordon Beckham, who added 29 points to his tally and got demoted to the ninth spot in the order as a reward.
Last week's poll can be found here.
