White Sox 12 Indians 6: Runnin' Down A Team

Athletes will tell you that when they're in the zone, the key is not thinking about it, or to think about anything really.

That's kind of how I feel about the White Sox right now.

This offense has been and continues to be on fire. It's not just Paulie. It's not just Adam Dunn or Dayan Viciedo.

It's everybody.

The Sox are scoring runs in bunches, and thankfully the pitching staff has been giving them up in smaller bunches.

Still, as great as things are, and as great as it is to be only a half-game out of first right now, I don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves.

Before you go buying playoff tickets, remind yourself that the three teams the Sox have just finished playing are the Cubs, Twins and Indians. Three teams with respective ERAs of 4.17, 5.50, and 4.35 at the moment.

The real measuring stick will be this three-game series in Tampa that we start on Monday. The Rays are a very good team with a good pitching staff.

If we score 30 runs in Tampa, well, let's start planning big things.

Until then, though, let's just enjoy what we've been able to see for the last week and a half and not go too crazy.

I mean, I'm not trying to piss in anybody's Cheerios, but this team isn't going to score 10 runs a game from here on out, and unless guys like Gavin Floyd, John Danks and Phil Humber start pitching a lot better, we're going to be on a roller coaster all season long.

At the moment we're just extremely fortunate to be in a place where our offense is red hot while our starting pitching is ice cold.

  1. Could not agree more, just soaking this one up and enjoying the fireworks. If this team emerges from a BRUTAL July schedule and is somewhere within 4-5 games of the lead/wild card, then I'll start letting my imagination wander.

Feel free to vent about how much any player sucks, but no hate speech directed at anybody, be it a player or a fellow commenter.
