Sox Officially Sign Orlando Hudson, Place Brent Morel On The Disabled List
In things that hadn't happened yet but we all pretty much new were going to happen at some point, the White Sox announced on Tuesday that they had officially signed Orlando Hudson.
While making the announcement the Sox also announced that Brent Morel had been placed on the disabled list. Morel's disabled list stint is retroactive to last Friday, so he's technically been on it for five days already.
While I'm not exactly thrilled with the idea of Orlando Hudson, or the idea of trying him at third base, I don't have a problem with it either. What the hell else are the White Sox going to do? Sure, they could bring up Dan Johnson to play third, but trust me when I say that should be a last resort move.
As for Morel, I'm happy the Sox placed him on the disabled list. Not just because he's been terrible and it means he's out of the lineup for two weeks, but because his back has been bothering him since spring training. There's no way it's going to get better if he plays with it every day.
Plus it gives the Sox a chance to see what else they have at the position. While I'm hoping that Brent's struggles have been tied to his back problems so far this year and that he comes back healthy and hitting .270, the Sox definitely need to try some alternatives for the time being.
Placing Brent on the disabled list allows them to do just that without actually demoting him from his job.
