Last week I said that there wouldn't be any Power Polls since the Sox had only played 4 games at that point, and it seemed kind of silly. Well, that's no longer the case.
It's still silly, but there has been enough data to put together an actual poll.
If you've watched the first 9 games of the season, you won't find any surprises in the first set of rankings.
| RANK | PLAYER | POINTS | LW | +/- |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Paul Konerko | 44 | NA | NA |
| 2 | A.J. Pierzynski | 39 | NA | NA |
| 3 | Alejandro De Aza | 36 | NA | NA |
| 4 | Dayan Viciedo | 16 | NA | NA |
| 5 | Alex Rios | 14 | NA | NA |
| 6 | Adam Dunn | 12 | NA | NA |
| 7 | Alexei Ramirez | 11 | NA | NA |
| 8 | Brent Morel | 9 | NA | NA |
| 8 | Tyler Flowers | 9 | NA | NA |
| 10 | Brent Lillibridge | 3 | NA | NA |
| 11 | Eduardo Escobar | 2 | NA | NA |
| 12 | Kosuke Fukudome | 0 | NA | NA |
| 13 | Gordon Beckham | -1 | NA | NA |
Yeah, it's Paul Konerko, A.J. Pierzynski, Alejandro De Aza, and then a big gap to the next hitter, Dayan Viciedo. Though Dayan has definitely played well, he hasn't done as much as those three have so far this year.
What shocks me more than anything is how high Brent Morel is considering how terribly he's played, but despite all the strikeouts, the man has still managed to be second on the team in runs scored behind De Aza.
Of course, he should thank guys like Konerko and Pierzynski for that.
Then there's Gordon Beckham, who in spite of the fact he has had a lot more playing time than the four players directly in front of him, still manages to be in last place and the only player on the negative side of the ledger.
