The Blue Jays Still Want Gavin Floyd

More trade rumors about Gavin Floyd popped up last week with the Red Sox and Blue Jays being mentioned as the two teams who were still interested in him, and now it seems that interest hasn't died when it comes to Toronto.

According to Jon Morosi, Toronto is still talking with the White Sox about Gavin.

Morosi says that sources have confirmed to him that the Blue Jays are interested, and that the team really wants to upgrade its starting rotation before opening day.
The Blue Jays and White Sox have had dialogue about Floyd since the start of spring training, one source said. The teams have completed two trades since the end of last season, with relievers Sergio Santos and Jason Frasor going from Chicago to Toronto. The clubs also struck a three-way deal with the St. Louis Cardinals last July, in which Edwin Jackson went to St. Louis and Colby Rasmus to Toronto.
Will this amount to anything, there's no way to know right now. Still, with all the rumors surrounding Floyd and the Blue Jays, I think we can be pretty sure that the White Sox are in fact listening to Toronto and have been.

The question is whether or not the Blue Jays are going to offer enough to make Kenny pull the trigger on a deal. We all know he loves making trades with the Blue Jays, but we also know that Kenny might be reluctant to move Floyd before the season starts because it would be a solid indicator that the White Sox aren't planning on competing for a playoff spot this season.

And that's not to say that the Sox couldn't make the playoffs without Floyd, it's more the message behind such a move. You know, that whole "Are they or aren't they" approach the Sox have taken to rebuilding this offseason.

A Floyd deal would certainly tip the scales in that debate.

  1. This will probably end with KW somehow re-acquiring Jason Frasor.
