White Sox Hand Out Spring Training Invites

Fear The Beard's 6.86 ERA and 1.923 WHIP
I know it probably doesn't seem like it, but did you know that we're only 30 days away from pitchers and catchers reporting (February 22) to spring training? That's only a month away. Not too long after that they'll begin playing spring training games, and we'll all start overreacting when some guy we never heard of and is wearing 84 goes 5-for-7 in the first two games.

"Johnny Whothefuckisthat needs to be our new third baseman!"

Then, after a month of meaningless games, the meaningless season will begin. Can you feel the excitement!?

Which brings me to the actual point of this post. The White Sox sent out invites to spring training today. No, I didn't get one. Which is a shame because I can strike out just as easily as anybody else on the roster.

Anyway, here's who did.

NON-ROSTER INVITES
  • Brian Bruney - RHP
  • Leyson Septimo - LHP
  • Eric Stults - LHP
  • Damaso Espino - C
  • Hector Gimenez - C
  • Dallas McPherson - INF
  • Ray Olmedo - INF
  • Delwyn Young - OF
ORGANIZATIONAL INVITES
  • Jared Mitchell - OF
  • Jordan Danks - OF
  • Brandon Short - OF
  • Trayce Thompson - OF
  • Jacob Petricka - RHP
  • Brian Omogrosso - RHP
  • Michael Blanke - C
  • Josh Phegley - C
  • Jim Gallagher - INF
  • Tyler Kuhn - INF
So all of them plus the guys who will actually make the team will be in Arizona.

If I had to guess which of these position players is most likely to be on the roster for opening day -- and I don't think any will -- I'd lean toward Jordan Danks as a fourth outfielder for his defense. As for which guy fans will want, I'm leaning Trayce Thompson because he'll likely hit some bombs in that Arizona air, and since outfield is a place of need, fans will jump on him even if he's not actually ready.

As for the pitchers, I have no idea. They have the best chance considering the questions in the bullpen, and as we've seen in the past, guys who have great springs tend to make their way into the Sox bullpen to start the year.

I'll just go with Brian Bruney because he's been there before, and we need someone to be truly terrible to make the rest of the guys look good.
