One of the first things people noticed after the White Sox hired Robin Ventura as manager was that Ventura's first game on the bench will come in Texas against the Rangers. Which means Nolan Ryan will be in attendance sitting right next to the Rangers dugout.
And well, as you can see above, Ventura and Ryan have a history.
In a radio interview with ESPN Dallas, Ryan says that the video of him pummeling Ventura that is frequently shown before Rangers games will not be a part of the highlight package when the White Sox come to town.
Nolan: Chuck has a pretty good history of showing that (Ventura highlight) on the screen before the game starts, but I dont think he'll be able to do that opening day in 2012.
Galloway: With Robin Ventura coming in (on opening day), he probably wouldn't have taken the job if he knew he was going to open in Arlington. Will you tell Chuck not to play that?
Nolan: Well I think out of fairness to Robin and out of respect to him, I think we probably shouldn't show that when he's in town.Which is probably the gentlemanly thing to do. Still, there's a part of me hoping that Ventura will be just lying in wait, seeking the perfect moment for revenge.
He'll bring out the lineup card before the game, walk over to Ryan's seat with his hand extended, making it seem like he wants to shake his hand. Then, when Ryan is within reach, HE STRIKES.
"NOT SO TOUGH NOW, OLD MAN, ARE YOU? LOT HARDER WHEN IVAN RODRIGUEZ ISN'T AROUND TO HOLD ME FROM BEHIND."
It'd probably be the greatest opening day of all time.
