So, this comes as a bit of a surprise, no?
All anyone has heard the last few weeks is that the top target for the White Sox has been Tampa Bay bench coach and former White Sox Dave Martinez.
So, shockingly, the White Sox announced on Thursday afternoon that Robin Ventura is the team's new manager.
What the hell?
Like a lot of you, this news has caught me completely off guard. I didn't see it coming, and I can't really say I'm all that happy about it.
Was Robin Ventura one of my favorite players and personal heroes growing up? He sure was.
Do I hate this hire? No, but I'm not exactly sure what's happening either.
I've conditioned myself to the fact that it was going to be Dave Martinez so now that the rug has been pulled out from under me, I honestly have no idea what to think.
"When I rejoined the White Sox this June, I said this was my baseball home and that part of me never left the White Sox organization," said Ventura in a release. "My family and I are thrilled to be returning to Chicago."
“I wanted someone who met very specific criteria centered around his leadership abilities. Robin Ventura was that man," said Kenny Williams.
I mean, I know Kenny likes to stay under the radar, but holy shit, this literally came out of no where. I'm going to let it sit and sink in for a while, wash out the Dave Martinez, and then figure out how I really feel about it.
Still, I can't help but think there are going to be plenty of fans who aren't exactly thrilled with this news.
