A.J. Pierzynski Voted Most Hated Player At The World Series
St. Louis, Missouri -- In a surprising upset, Chicago White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski was voted the most hated player in the 2011 World Series this week.
Sports Illustrated conducted the poll of 200 Major League players not in the World Series this season with the question "Which player on the Cardinals or Rangers do you hate the most?" and Pierzynski appeared as a write in candidate on 147 of the ballots.
The oddity is that Pierzynski doesn't play for either the Cardinals or Rangers, but is serving as an analyst with Fox during the pre- and post-game shows.
"I just hate him so much," said one player on his ballot. "I don't care that he's not playing, the fact that I have to see and hear him on my television when I tune in is what bothers me. Who the hell still bleaches their hair in 2011 anyway?"
"I considered Derek Holland for a minute," said another player, "because he spent 15 minutes doing Harry Caray impressions in the dugout on television while his team was losing, and I also considered Michael Young because he's getting the Derek Jeter treatment this year, but in the end I had to go with Pierzynski.
"I can't stand that shit-eating grin of his while he's on the set, and then he's flashing that World Series ring on his hand to boot. Everything the guy does just pisses me off to no end."
For his part, Pierzynski took the news in stride.
"I'm honored, actually." responded Pierzynski to the news. "They don't hate you if you aren't good at what you do, and I'd much rather be hated than be unknown."
Pierzynski then offered to show off some wrestling moves he'd been working on, but the offer was declined.
